This beautiful garden centre on the banks of the River Ilen just outside Skibbereen in West Cork was a favourite place of my mother's, also an artist (and keen gardener of course). I used to love going there with her in the 1980s and 1990s, and would often bring an unusual plant back to my pocket handkerchief sized garden in Dublin to remind me of West Cork. Now that I have a rather bigger patch of ground, just down the road from Deelish, I'm a regular visitor. When they asked me to paint the garden centre I was highly honoured. It was quite a challenge, but I thoroughly enjoyed painting in the details once it had taken shape!
