Mirror Memories

As a teenager I was sent out racing in a Mirror dinghy in Baltimore, West Cork. I liked sailing, but only when the sun shone and the breeze was gentle. In the late 1970s, there seemed to be an endless run of foul, wet, stormy summers, so I hated every minute of it. Most other kids were ruthlessly competitive and there was always much shouting and aggression. So, this year I decided to purge the bad memories and paint the scene I would like to have been part of. I had enormous fun dressing people in 1970s clothes, and even found a photo online of the old Sherkin ferry. Sailing boats nowadays seem to be all white with white or grey sails, so this trip down memory lane was a wonderful opportunity to use colour!
