I used to do a lot more paintings like this; non-specific locations which let the imagination flow, but are nearly always based on a particular place, or indeed a combination of a few. West Cork has always inspired, and certainly did in this painting. The town of Clonakilty with its long main street of tall, brightly painted houses, is so pretty, and with it at the back of my mind I went "to town" on colours.
